Booking.com Launches Turbulence Tests to Gauge Relationship Compatibility

Before calling it quits on a summer fling, Booking.com is encouraging travelers to measure their romantic longevity through a series of curated Turbulence Tests. Starting September 14, 2026, nine partner hotels across the U.S. will host stays designed to expose travel habits, financial triggers, and hidden relationship red flags.

Booking.com Launches Turbulence Tests to Gauge Relationship Compatibility

The initiative follows internal research suggesting that travel acts as a high-speed stress test for modern relationships. According to the data, 35% of U.S. travelers have discovered fundamental incompatibilities with a partner after a trip, while 28% have considered ending a relationship or friendship based on travel experiences. To facilitate these assessments, participating properties will provide guests with a physical kit featuring conversation decks, "Would You Rather?" scenarios, and compatibility surveys.

Relationship expert Dr. Jess Carbino notes that these friction points often stem from deeper issues rather than simple travel logistics. Financial habits remain the primary catalyst for conflict, with 58% of respondents citing discomfort when partners expect others to cover costs or ignore agreed-upon budgets. Beyond money, the study highlights generational divides in coping mechanisms: while Millennials are more prone to suppressing grievances and quietly holding grudges, older travelers are more likely to be agitated by behavioral lapses like tardiness or excessive noise. By gamifying these interactions at venues like the Lotte Hotel New York or the adults-only Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the platform aims to help couples navigate the transition from vacation tension to a more durable understanding.
