York Technical College and University of Phoenix Form Transfer Pact

The collaboration allows eligible graduates to maximize previously earned credits, reducing the need for redundant coursework. John McGill, assistant vice president for academic pathways at York Technical College, noted that the arrangement supports students in both technical and transfer-track programs by providing a path to higher credentials without disrupting their current employment or family commitments. For the University of Phoenix, this move aligns with its broader national strategy to improve credit mobility for adult learners. Over the last eight years, the institution has processed more than 7 million transfer credits, a volume they estimate has saved students approximately $3 billion in tuition costs. The university currently maintains over 500 similar articulation agreements with community colleges across the United States. Students participating in this new pathway may apply up to 87 transfer credits toward most bachelor's degrees, with the potential for up to 90 credits in select programs. This framework is designed to minimize the friction often associated with transferring between public two-year institutions and private online universities.
