Hanshow Debuts Solar-Harvesting Electronic Shelf Labels in Paris

At NRF 2026 in Paris, Hanshow introduced Nebular Lux, a new electronic shelf label designed to slash retail energy consumption. By integrating ambient light harvesting with ultra-low-power electronics, the device promises a 46% reduction in daily energy use, addressing the industry's push for sustainable, high-frequency digital shelf operations.

The hardware relies on a hybrid energy architecture that supplements battery power with indoor light harvesting. This design aims to resolve a persistent retail dilemma: how to increase the frequency of shelf-edge updates for tasks like replenishment and product picking without shortening the lifespan of millions of deployed units. According to company data, a deployment of one million labels could prevent 202 metric tons of carbon emissions over a decade by reducing the frequency of battery replacements.

Beyond energy savings, the labels utilize Hanshow’s fifth-generation HiLPC protocol to manage communications and positioning. This technical shift provides the extra energy budget needed for sustained LED signaling and more frequent data updates. Philippe Brochard, Chairman of the Advisory Board at Hanshow, noted that the system serves as a foundation for the company’s Store Digital Twin initiatives, bridging the gap between real-time data insights and physical store execution. The technology is currently on display at Hall 6, Booth E-020, alongside the European debut of the NexMate intelligent robotics platform.
