HiTHIUM Targets Infrastructure-Grade Sodium-Ion Storage with New System

Xiamen-based HiTHIUM has unveiled the ∞Power N4.0MWh, a sodium-ion storage system designed to bridge the gap between experimental technology and long-term utility infrastructure. By integrating a 30-year service life with production compatibility across existing lithium-ion lines, the company aims to initiate full-scale commercial deployment by 2027.

The new system centers on the ∞Cell N785Ah battery, which boasts a 20,000-cycle lifespan and supports storage durations between two and eight hours. According to HiTHIUM, the technology is engineered to mirror the manufacturing footprint of its established 1,000 Ah lithium-ion platform, a design choice intended to accelerate the transition to mass production. The company claims the system architecture reduces station footprints by 30% while achieving an overall efficiency exceeding 88%.

Technical enhancements include a dedicated battery management system with an SOC estimation accuracy of 2.5% and a hybrid cooling mode that utilizes AI-driven thermal management. These features reportedly cut auxiliary power consumption by up to 50% during standby. CTO Dr. Nazar Yi emphasized that the shift toward sodium-ion is driven by the need for resource security and supply-chain stability. To prove the system’s longevity, HiTHIUM is launching the ∞Edge Pioneer Program, which will stress-test the hardware in extreme environments with the goal of reaching a levelized cost of storage of RMB 0.1 per kWh.
