Teledyne LeCroy Launches First Standalone PCIe 7.0 Protocol Exerciser

As demand for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence forces interconnect speeds to 128 GT/s, Teledyne LeCroy has introduced the Summit Z74. This new protocol exerciser allows engineers to simulate complex traffic and validate system responses for the next generation of PCI Express technology, addressing critical debugging challenges in bandwidth-intensive environments.

The Summit Z74 provides developers with a standalone platform for precise traffic generation and link behavior control. By doubling the raw data rate of its predecessor to 128 GT/s and supporting up to 512 GB/s of bi-directional bandwidth in x16 configurations, the device enables the testing of PAM4 signaling and FLIT-based protocols essential for modern system architectures.

When integrated with the existing Summit M616 Protocol Analyzer, the system forms a comprehensive environment for protocol capture and analysis. Engineering teams can use this combination to isolate transaction-level errors, verify LTSSM transitions, and resolve interoperability bottlenecks. Al Yanes, President and Chairperson of PCI-SIG, noted that such specialized test equipment is vital for ensuring ecosystem readiness as PCIe 7.0 pushes performance boundaries in storage and AI applications. Michael Romm, General Manager of Teledyne LeCroy's Protocol Solutions Group, emphasized that the modular approach allows firms to scale their validation workflows while minimizing development risks.
