Waymo Resumes Robotaxi Operations in San Antonio
Five months after a flash flood swept a driverless vehicle into harm's way, Waymo has officially returned to the streets of San Antonio. The company paused its Texas operations in April following a series of incidents where robotaxis struggled to navigate waterlogged infrastructure, triggering a subsequent software recall.
This return follows a period of localized suspension that affected Waymo’s broader footprint across Texas. While the company briefly halted services in other cities during the initial investigation, those operations have since resumed. Waymo currently operates paid autonomous rides in 15 U.S. cities, maintaining a strict policy of restricting vehicle access in zones identified as having an elevated risk of flooding.
