Minnesota Kemps Workers Secure New Two-Year Labor Agreement

The agreement marks a victory for Local 471 members, who had previously authorized a strike to leverage their position against the Dairy Farmers of America subsidiary. Beyond base wage improvements, the contract lowers the employee health care cap by two percent and mandates a two percent increase in company contributions to the Central States Pension Fund.

Perhaps most notable for the workforce is the 400 percent jump in the night shift differential. This change directly impacts over 70 percent of the bargaining unit, rewarding those who maintain production during overnight hours. Lyndon Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 471, credited the result to the membership’s sustained engagement throughout the bargaining process.
