Manus targets $4 billion valuation in post-Meta comeback

After a high-profile merger with Meta collapsed under regulatory pressure from Beijing, AI startup Manus is charting a path back to independence. The company is currently in talks to secure $500 million in funding, aiming for a $4 billion valuation as it pivots toward a potential Hong Kong IPO.

The fundraising effort has drawn interest from a roster of backers including IDG Capital, Boyu Capital, and battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology, alongside existing investors Tencent, HSG, and Zhenfund. This follows a period of intense restructuring where early backers helped the startup repurchase shares at a $2 billion valuation to facilitate its separation from the American social media giant.

Manus, known for viral AI agent demonstrations, relocated its core team to Singapore in mid-2025 before its acquisition deal with Meta was blocked by Chinese regulators over export control concerns. The fallout forced the company to purge user data generated during the acquisition window to satisfy legal requirements. Now operating independently, the firm continues to develop AI-driven coding tools, video generation, and browser assistants that compete directly with platforms like OpenAI and Replit. The founding team remains at the helm, steering the company toward public market readiness.
