ScrollEd turns textbooks into a TikTok-style feed

Palo Alto startup ScrollEd is betting that the best way to fix short attention spans is not to ban smartphones, but to reshape how students consume information. Competing at TechCrunch Disrupt, the platform transforms dry textbooks and PDFs into vertical, swipeable feeds featuring AI-generated video, audio, and interactive quizzes.

Co-founders Utsav Gupta and Rebecca Neff developed the app after noticing their own frustration with aimless late-night doomscrolling. While Gupta studies AI and human purpose at Stanford and Neff pursues computer science at the University of Pennsylvania, their startup aims to reconcile the convenience of short-form media with the need for academic depth. Swiping up advances the feed, while horizontal gestures allow users to dive deeper into specific topics, concluding with assessments to reinforce learning.

The company operates on a freemium model, offering a consumer-facing feed alongside paid Pro subscriptions and institutional licenses. For schools and corporate training programs, the platform provides analytics on engagement and lesson progress. Moving forward, the team plans to expand its lesson library and build infrastructure for personalized learning, with an official consumer launch scheduled for the TechCrunch Disrupt event in San Francisco this October.
