Institutional eligibility also underwent a transformation this year. Due to updates in the Carnegie Classification framework, approximately 20% of schools have shifted into new categories, rendering direct historical comparisons difficult. The expansion has brought a broader array of specialized institutions—particularly in engineering, business, and health—into the rankings for the first time. Beyond the top-tier shifts, Williams College retained its No. 1 ranking among National Liberal Arts Colleges, while the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill debuted as the leader in the inaugural 'Best Value Schools for In-State Students' category.
