Noble Carbon’s technology monitors these draws, momentarily throttling power to high-consumption appliances like water heaters or stoves when demand spikes. By controlling just three to six major loads, the system prevents the main panel from exceeding its capacity, allowing chargers to function without requiring a service upgrade.

Noble Carbon simplifies home EV charger installation
Upgrading a home electrical panel to accommodate an EV charger can double installation costs, a barrier Noble Carbon aims to dismantle. The Massachusetts-based startup is heading to TechCrunch Disrupt with smart circuit breakers designed to manage household power loads in real time, bypassing the need for expensive electrical infrastructure overhauls.
Founded by Jared Lebos and CTO Andrew Crane, the company drew inspiration from Lebos’s experience with rolling blackouts in South Africa. The resulting breakers fit into existing panel slots and can be installed in under five minutes. Currently undergoing UL certification, the hardware is being tested in a pilot program with utility provider Eversource across 200 multifamily units in Massachusetts. As a participant in the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield, the team will present its solution to a wider audience this October in San Francisco.
