Varda Space Industries Expands Leadership to Scale Orbital Manufacturing

Steve Layne joins the firm after a three-decade career in high-stakes defense, most recently serving as Vice President and Deputy General Manager for Strategic and Missile Defense Systems at Lockheed Martin. His background includes leading Pentagon-priority hypersonic initiatives, providing Varda with expertise in managing complex national security programs. Aaron Huber, stepping in as CFO, offers nearly 20 years of experience in deep-tech finance, including a $1.6 billion NYSE listing and work across synthetic biology and healthcare AI sectors.

CEO Will Bruey noted that these additions align commercial and financial leadership with the company’s technical trajectory. Varda has already completed six successful missions and currently holds three vehicles at launch sites, aiming to reach nine total commercial reentries by the end of this year. By leveraging microgravity, the company seeks to create drug formulations impossible to replicate under terrestrial conditions.
