Kigen secures first GSMA automotive eSIM certification for SGP.32

Cambridge-based Kigen has achieved the industry’s first GSMA eSA certification for automotive eSIMs supporting the SGP.32 v1.3 specification. By integrating its OS with the Infineon TEGRION SLI22 controller, the company provides vehicle manufacturers with a standardized, long-term security architecture designed to defend connected fleets against emerging quantum-era threats.

The certification addresses a growing challenge for automotive OEMs: ensuring that software-defined vehicles remain secure over decadelong service lives. By aligning with the SGP.32 standard, Kigen’s platform facilitates direct profile downloads and emergency profile handling, which are essential for modern telematics and infotainment systems. The architecture spans the TEGRION SLx22 chip family, allowing manufacturers to utilize a unified development stack across automotive, consumer, and industrial IoT applications.

Beyond current compliance, the platform includes hybrid key encapsulation to support post-quantum cryptography. This allows developers to test end-to-end PQC-resistant communications before such standards are formally mandated. Kigen CEO Vincent Korstanje noted that as vehicles evolve into long-lived software platforms, the connectivity trust anchor must remain manageable well beyond the initial production phase. The new eSIMs will be available for OEM sampling in the ETSI MFF2 package starting in October 2026.
