Big Bear Valley to Honor Jackie the Bald Eagle with Two-Day Tribute

The commemoration begins Saturday, October 3, at Bear Mountain Resort. The ceremony opens with the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation, followed by remarks from conservationists, local officials, and representatives from the U.S. Forest Service. The event serves as both a tribute to the raptor and a call to action for regional stewardship, highlighting the connection between the public and the local wilderness she inhabited.

"Jackie gave millions of people a reason to look up, pay attention to the natural world, and care more deeply about wildlife," said Travis Scott, CEO of Visit Big Bear. On Sunday, October 4, the focus shifts to Wildlife Education Day, featuring hands-on conservation activities across the valley. Residents and visitors can participate in guided birdwatching, native seed collecting, and habitat restoration hikes. These programs aim to translate the public's interest in Jackie’s life into direct support for the San Bernardino National Forest and local eagle populations.
