Pipit, a new platform built exclusively for independent musicians, opened for artist sign-ups today with a mandate to eliminate major-label content and generative AI. By shifting the focus from passive algorithmic streaming to listener-driven discovery, the startup aims to restore the active, crate-digging culture of music exploration.
Co-founder Ray Shingler emphasized that the platform is designed to reverse the trend of passive consumption. Artists on the service must certify their work is free of generative AI, maintaining a strictly human-made ecosystem.
