Hedera moves to eliminate blockchain bridges with new CLPR protocol

Hedera has donated its bridgeless Cross-Ledger Protocol (CLPR) to the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust, aiming to replace fragmented asset-transfer bridges with direct, cryptographic state proofs. The move signals a shift toward enabling native interoperability for tokens and data across disparate distributed ledger networks.

Hedera moves to eliminate blockchain bridges with new CLPR protocol

Current blockchain ecosystems operate as isolated silos, forcing developers to rely on bridges and third-party intermediaries to move assets between networks. These workarounds often introduce significant security vulnerabilities and liquidity bottlenecks. CLPR, developed by Hashgraph, addresses these limitations by allowing ledgers to verify each other’s states directly using state proofs, effectively removing the need for intermediary relayers.

By establishing the protocol as a Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LFDT) lab, Hedera is opening the codebase for community-driven development. Daniela Barbosa, general manager of decentralized technologies at the Linux Foundation, noted that the contribution serves to advance vendor-neutral collaboration on critical infrastructure. Dr. Leemon Baird, co-founder of Hedera, emphasized that the protocol is designed to eliminate single points of failure, ensuring that assets and messages transit networks securely.

Concurrent with the open-source release, Hashgraph has launched a Cross-Ledger Early Adopter Program. The initiative invites financial institutions, fintech firms, and liquidity providers to test the protocol across three primary use cases: cross-border payments, cross-ledger settlement, and collateral mobility. Participants will receive access to a Hashgraph-hosted testnet environment to refine the technology before its broader market deployment.
