Desert Financial Credit Union has committed $520,000 to 21 Arizona nonprofits, launching a two-year funding cycle aimed at bolstering community services. Since 2013, the credit union has funneled nearly $2.6 million into local charitable initiatives. By structuring the current grant as a two-year commitment, the organization allows recipients to bypass the annual reapplication process, provided they meet initial criteria. This model aims to reduce administrative burdens and allow nonprofits to focus resources on their core missions.

Among the beneficiaries is Tynkertopia, which received $10,000 to support its Future Ready program. This initiative integrates financial literacy with hands-on STEAM training for 300 young adults. Dr. Alice Christie, CEO of Tynkertopia, noted that the funding is critical for expanding educational opportunities for families in northern Arizona. Jack Biggs, executive vice president at Desert Financial, emphasized that these investments are intended to build a more resilient workforce by equipping younger generations with essential career skills.

The 2026 cohort includes a diverse range of organizations, such as A New Leaf, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, and the Lowell Observatory, which is utilizing its $12,500 grant to provide science education to students on the Navajo, Hopi, and Apache nations. Other recipients include Jobs for Arizona's Graduates, Laptops 4 Learning, and the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center. Each partner organization receives between $7,500 and $15,000, tailored to support specific community needs ranging from homeless services to early childhood education.
