Alibaba Investors Face October Deadline in Securities Class Action

Investors who purchased Alibaba Group Holding Limited securities between June 26, 2025, and June 24, 2026, have until October 5, 2026, to apply as lead plaintiff in a class action lawsuit. The litigation alleges the company misled shareholders regarding its ties to the Chinese military and unauthorized AI model usage.

Alibaba Investors Face October Deadline in Securities Class Action

The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York as Wistisen v. Alibaba Group Holding Limited, accuses the company and its CEO of violating the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. According to the complaint, Alibaba failed to disclose its affiliation with the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a status that led the U.S. Department of Defense to designate the firm as a Chinese military company in June 2026. This disclosure triggered a nearly 4% drop in the company's American Depositary Shares.

Further claims involve the unauthorized exploitation of U.S. artificial intelligence technology. The suit cites a Bloomberg report detailing accusations from the AI startup Anthropic, which alleged that operators linked to Alibaba’s Qwen AI lab used adversarial distillation to siphon capabilities from the Claude model. Following these reports, Alibaba shares experienced consecutive declines, falling 2.7% on June 24 and an additional 4.7% the following day. Investors seeking to represent the class are encouraged to contact Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd LLP before the October deadline.
