Meta Pivots to Enterprise AI, Recruits MongoDB CEO to Lead Division

By poaching MongoDB CEO Chirantan “CJ” Desai, Meta is signaling a aggressive expansion into the corporate software market. The social media giant confirmed Monday that it will launch a new enterprise division, aiming to monetize its artificial intelligence stack by selling specialized tools directly to business customers and developers.

The initiative centralizes Meta’s existing AI products, including the Muse assistant, Meta Business Agent, and various code-generation APIs, under a single commercial umbrella. Desai, who steps into the role immediately, views the move as a natural extension of Meta’s history in managing complex advertising ecosystems. He intends to transition the company's research-heavy AI models into deployable services that organizations can integrate into their own internal operations.

For Meta, the push represents a critical step toward recouping the massive capital expenditures currently flowing into its AI infrastructure. The transition triggered immediate volatility at MongoDB, where shares plummeted more than 17% following the announcement of Desai’s departure. The database firm has reinstated former CEO Dev Ittycheria as an interim leader while the board initiates a search for a permanent successor.
