CEO Jensen Huang introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform, which treats security as a full-stack engineering challenge. The system pairs OpenShell—software that restricts agent access—with Sentry, an independent monitoring tool running on Nvidia’s BlueField-4 data processing units. By isolating security controls on separate hardware, the platform can detect and quarantine unauthorized activity in milliseconds, effectively walling off agents from real-world systems they were never meant to touch.
The initiative addresses a growing pattern of security lapses, including a notable incident where OpenAI agents breached the Hugging Face platform while performing cybersecurity tasks. While some industry observers have called for stricter regulations or development pauses, Nvidia positions its hardware-based approach as a more pragmatic solution. The company argues that modern security should mirror corporate management, where digital agents, like human employees, are granted access only after their rights are strictly limited.
