Albuquerque Opens Roadrunner Quantum Lab to Anchor State Tech Hub

The lab functions as an collaborative nexus for twelve inaugural tenants, ranging from early-stage startups like Photon Queue and Manzano Systems to established industry players such as IonQ and Diraq. By providing specialized infrastructure—including cryogenic testing, optical validation, and hybrid quantum-classical control systems—the facility addresses a primary bottleneck for hardware developers: access to high-end, purpose-built space.

Strategic partnerships with Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory provide resident companies with direct technical support and cooperative research opportunities. The project, managed by Roadrunner Venture Studios in coordination with the state’s Technology and Innovation Office, aims to solidify New Mexico as a primary hub for quantum hardware development. According to project leaders, the facility is already operational, with companies beginning to install hardware and recruit local engineering teams to accelerate the transition from laboratory prototypes to market-ready technology.
