The Pegasus drone serves as a technical showcase for three Australian innovators. The platform integrates a V-TOL Aerospace airframe with Li-S Energy’s lithium-sulfur battery system and Halocell Energy’s lightweight perovskite solar array. During its latest flight trials, the drone demonstrated an 80% increase in range and flight time compared to high-performance lithium polymer alternatives of the same weight. This endurance milestone validates the project's practical development phase, supported by a $1.35 million grant from the Commonwealth Government’s Emerging Aviation Technology Partnership programme.

Australian Pegasus Drone Completes Two-Hour Endurance Flight
A collaborative effort between Li-S Energy, V-TOL Aerospace, and Halocell Energy has pushed the boundaries of uncrewed flight, as the Pegasus drone successfully completed a two-hour test flight in Queensland. Powered by a single lithium-sulfur battery, the aircraft covered 75 kilometres while maintaining significant reserve capacity.

While this test utilized one battery pack, the airframe is designed to carry two. With further refinements to the solar technology, the partnership anticipates the platform will eventually reach flight durations of five to eight hours, covering up to 250 kilometres. Such performance metrics are targeted at demanding missions in agriculture, environmental monitoring, and surveillance. Following these successful trials, the companies are now pivoting toward characterizing the platform’s performance data to assess its commercial viability for both domestic and international markets.
