The development and upcoming manufacturing will take place at Piramal’s sterile injectable facility in Lexington, Kentucky. The site is currently undergoing an 85 million dollar expansion to boost capacity for essential oncology treatments. By localizing production, the project seeks to mitigate the risks associated with the current market, where two overseas manufacturers control 92 percent of U.S. sales, according to Q2 IQVIA data.

Piramal and NP2 to Finalize Cyclophosphamide Development in October
Piramal Pharma Solutions and nonprofit manufacturer NP2 will complete the development phase for a generic version of the oncology drug cyclophosphamide this October. This partnership aims to stabilize the U.S. supply chain for the critical injectable medicine, which currently faces significant shortages across the domestic market.

NP2 Executive Director Terri Miller emphasized that the initiative addresses systemic vulnerabilities rather than scientific hurdles. With hospitals nationwide reporting widespread shortages of anti-cancer agents, the collaboration aims to provide a reliable domestic alternative to the current reliance on foreign supply chains. The finalized drug is expected to reach the market by mid-2028, offering patients consistent access to a therapy used for conditions ranging from breast cancer to retinoblastoma.
