Dr. Ahn arrives at a critical juncture for the physician-owned organization, succeeding Dorian Reid, who held the position on an interim basis since September 2025. Viral Shah, chair of the WPMG board, noted that Ahn’s experience will be central to the group's ongoing collaboration with regional president Cynthia Dold to drive organizational performance and patient care.

Taejoon Ahn Appointed CEO of Washington Permanente Medical Group
Taejoon Ahn, MD, has taken the helm of the Washington Permanente Medical Group, stepping into the roles of CEO and executive medical director effective September 30. He assumes leadership of one of the state’s largest multispecialty groups, overseeing a network of 1,200 clinicians serving 550,000 Kaiser Permanente members.
With over 15 years in physician executive roles, Ahn spent the last 12 years as president of the John Muir Medical Group. His background includes clinical governance and a focus on care delivery innovation, alongside previous faculty positions at the University of California, San Francisco. Ahn holds a medical degree from UCSF and a master’s in public health from UC Berkeley. In his new capacity, he aims to leverage the integrated care model to expand access to high-quality health services across Washington state.
