Most Travelers Nail Digital Visa Applications on First Attempt

Seventy-six percent of international travelers successfully secure their electronic travel authorizations on the first try, according to the latest Service eVisa Readiness Index. Data collected from over 10,000 applications reveals that while most users navigate the systems smoothly, minor clerical errors remain the primary obstacle to instant approval.

Most Travelers Nail Digital Visa Applications on First Attempt

The index, which analyzed submissions for the UK ETA, US ESTA, Canada eTA, New Zealand NZeTA, and Australia ETA between January and September 2026, highlights that passport-related data is the most frequent point of failure. Specifically, 31% of all corrections stem from incorrect passport numbers, issue dates, or expiry dates. Misaligned name sequences and middle names account for 19% of errors, while confusion regarding nationality versus issuing country represents 13% of the total.

Precision matters significantly, as these digital authorizations are tethered to specific travel documents. In the case of the US ESTA, a single biographical error necessitates a complete new application and an additional fee. Singaporean travelers currently lead global readiness, with an 89.4% success rate, closely followed by nationals from Japan, Switzerland, Denmark, and the Netherlands. Fred Jordan, Director of Operations at Service eVisa, attributes success to a simple habit: copying data directly from the document itself rather than relying on memory. Experts advise travelers to finalize these applications immediately upon booking trips to avoid the common, last-minute rush that often precedes errors.
