Uniper Secures Future SAF Supply Through Syzygy Plasmonics Deal

The move strengthens Uniper’s low-carbon portfolio as it prepares to meet strict European Union mandates for bio-based and renewable aviation fuels.

Uniper Secures Future SAF Supply Through Syzygy Plasmonics Deal

The agreement centers on Syzygy’s NovaSAF platform, which utilizes proprietary Rigel photocatalytic reactor technology to convert biogas into aviation fuel. With the NovaSAF-1 project in Uruguay nearing a final investment decision, the partnership provides a critical supply pathway for the European market, where demand is rising under the ReFuelEU and CORSIA frameworks.

Trevor Best, CEO of Syzygy Plasmonics, noted that the deal signals a shift in market momentum as companies scramble to meet mandated production volumes. For Uniper, the collaboration serves as a strategic expansion of its existing low-carbon energy portfolio. Benedikt Messner, SVP of New Energies at Uniper, described the investment as a necessary step to secure competitive supply in a sector poised for significant growth.
