TCL SunPower Launches X5 Storage System for European Commercial Sites

TCL SunPower has opened orders across Europe for its X5 industrial hybrid energy storage system, a compact, factory-assembled unit designed to streamline installations for small and medium-sized commercial enterprises. The system integrates a 50kW inverter directly into the cabinet, aiming to reduce site labor and logistics costs.

The X5 targets a specific market gap: sites too large for residential hardware but too small to justify complex, custom-engineered battery systems. By providing a pre-wired, plug-and-play architecture, TCL estimates that installers can cut last-mile transport and mounting expenses by up to 60% compared to traditional field-assembled setups. The base unit offers 50kWh to 100kWh of capacity and supports scaling up to 400kWh by paralleling four units.

Technically, the system supports on-grid, off-grid, and microgrid operations, featuring a 20-millisecond switchover time and black-start functionality. Its robust environmental ratings—IP66 for the inverter and IP55 for the cabinet—allow for operation in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 50°C. Security is managed through a multi-layered monitoring platform that includes fire suppression and arc-fault detection, all compliant with GDPR and ETSI EN303645 cybersecurity standards.

Early adoption is already underway, with installations such as a solar water-pumping project in Spain demonstrating the hardware's utility. Adolfo Bartolomé Redondo of Electricidad EUFON noted that the X5 allowed the farm to transition to a hybrid system without requiring an expansion of the existing photovoltaic array. Steven Zhang, General Manager at TCL SunPower Global, stated that this launch serves as the first milestone in a wider strategy to introduce a comprehensive commercial and industrial energy portfolio to the European market, with megawatt-scale solutions expected within the next year.
