Sewa International Targets Education and Livelihoods in Nepal Flood Recovery

After traversing 125 miles of decimated infrastructure in Nepal, Sewa USA President Srikanth Gundavarapu has unveiled a recovery plan aimed at supporting 10,000 children and rebuilding 500 homes. The initiative follows catastrophic flash floods that tore through the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts, leaving communities isolated and thousands of students without schools.

The relief effort centers on long-term stability, with plans to establish 10 skill development centers for those who lost their livelihoods. Volunteers have already distributed over 800 grocery kits and provided 2,250 meals in the immediate aftermath. Beyond basic sustenance, the organization is addressing the mental health trauma faced by survivors, including families who lost children to the landslides and flooding.

Sewa International has secured 76% of its $1 million fundraising goal to sustain these operations. While medical camps and emergency power support continue, the focus is shifting toward structural rehabilitation. Gundavarapu, who met with local officials and affected families during his two-day assessment, emphasized that the scale of destruction requires sustained international backing to restore educational access and community infrastructure across the hardest-hit regions.
