The competition challenges children between the ages of 8 and 12 to engage with financial literacy through literature. Participants must read a book on the subject and submit either a 250-word essay or an art project detailing how they intend to apply those financial lessons to their daily lives. OneUnited Bank provides a complimentary e-book version of "I Got Bank! What My Granddad Taught Me About Money," authored by bank president Teri Williams, to help students prepare their entries.

OneUnited Bank and Big Brothers Big Sisters Launch Youth Literacy Contest
Ten children across the United States will receive $1,000 savings accounts as part of the 16th annual "I Got Bank!" contest, a national initiative now powered by a new partnership between OneUnited Bank and the mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Gale Nelson, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, noted that the program aims to instill long-term discipline and confidence in young people. By integrating financial education into existing mentorship relationships, the organizations hope to bridge the resource gap for urban youth. Submissions for the contest must be postmarked or emailed by November 20, 2026. The bank intends to announce the winners and distribute the $1,000 prizes by December 29, 2026.
