The deal establishes Grid Protection Alliance as a wholly owned subsidiary of EPG, combining their respective histories in high-resolution grid monitoring. According to EPG CEO Vikram Budhraja, the move leverages significant customer overlap and complementary software suites to address the increasing complexity of modern electrical grids. The integration is expected to accelerate innovation in real-time visualization and situational awareness for utilities worldwide.

Electric Power Group Acquires Grid Protection Alliance
Pasadena-based Electric Power Group has acquired Grid Protection Alliance, uniting two industry veterans to bolster grid reliability. By integrating GPA’s high-speed data management tools into its own synchrophasor-based analytics platform, EPG aims to provide grid operators with more precise tools for managing complex loads and preventing large-scale system failures.

Terry Boston, a founder of GPA and former CEO of PJM Interconnection, noted that the merger returns to the organization’s roots following the 2003 Eastern Interconnection blackout. The goal remains to transform high-speed time-series data into actionable intelligence for control room operators. This capacity is increasingly critical as the industry grapples with inverter-based resources, rising data center power demands, and system oscillations. Akash Ghiya, EPG’s Vice President of Operations and Strategy, confirmed that the company intends to maintain GPA’s technical foundation and talent pool to drive future resilience projects.
