Labsphere Acquires Photon Gear to Consolidate Optical Design Services

By absorbing the Ontario-based lens specialist Photon Gear, New Hampshire’s Labsphere aims to collapse the distance between light measurement and physical optical assembly. The October 1 deal grants Labsphere’s clients a single source for custom lens design, interferometric testing, and the calibration systems required to qualify precision hardware.

Labsphere Acquires Photon Gear to Consolidate Optical Design Services

The acquisition merges Labsphere’s established platform for light generation and control with the engineering capabilities of Photon Gear, which has specialized in high-precision optical systems since its founding in 2000. By bringing these workflows under one roof, Labsphere expects to shorten design cycles for customers operating in the semiconductor, aerospace, defense, and medical device sectors.

Robert Harrison, CEO of Labsphere, described the move as a strategic alignment that allows his company to manage the entire lifecycle of an optical solution, from conceptual design through to commercialization. Gary Blough, who leads Photon Gear, noted that the union provides his team the scale to pursue new market applications while maintaining their focus on technical precision. Existing client relationships and service standards will remain unchanged during the integration process.
