Special Olympics Indiana Moves Polar Plunge to SKYLAKE Adventures

The signature Polar Plunge fundraiser is leaving Eagle Creek Park for a new home in Sheridan. Special Olympics Indiana announced its 2027 season showcase will take place at the recently opened SKYLAKE Adventures, utilizing the park’s six-acre lagoon to host the annual tradition of braving the cold for charity.

The transition marks a shift to a facility that opened in June 2026, situated just north of the Grand Park Sports Campus. While the setting is changing, organizers intend to maintain the event’s core features, including team challenges and costume competitions. The new venue also introduces accessibility upgrades, such as ramp access to the water, allowing individuals who use wheelchairs to participate in the plunge for the first time in the event's history.

Jeff Mohler, president and CEO of Special Olympics Indiana, noted that the move offers expanded opportunities to celebrate the event’s mission. The showcase is scheduled as a two-day affair, featuring a school-focused plunge on Friday followed by a community event on Saturday. In 2026, the organization drew nearly 1,000 participants for these specific sessions. Funds generated from the 2027 season will support year-round sports, health, and leadership training for over 20,000 Hoosiers with intellectual disabilities.
