onX Hunt Adds SOS and Offline Navigation for Remote Hunting

With over 646 million acres of U.S. land lacking cellular service, onX Hunt is rolling out a suite of safety features to bridge the connectivity gap. The update introduces real-time location sharing for groups, on-device navigation for offline areas, and a professional emergency rescue service.

The new Location Sharing feature allows a primary subscriber to invite up to nine others to a live map session. The tool refreshes positions every five seconds, though it requires an active data connection to function. If a user moves outside of range, the app pins their final known coordinate until they regain service. To assist with planning, users can consult the Cell Coverage Map Layer before heading into the field.

For areas without any signal, the platform has launched offline turn-by-turn navigation. By downloading specific map regions, hunters can calculate and adjust routes directly on their devices without needing a network connection. This function is currently live on both iOS and Android platforms.

Beyond navigation, the company introduced onX SOS, a $49.99-per-year subscription add-on powered by Overwatch x Rescue. When activated, the service transmits GPS coordinates via SMS to a 24/7 crisis center. A professional coordinator then manages the rescue process, providing financial coverage for eligible evacuation costs. This service is backed by FocusPoint International, an organization with over 15 years of experience coordinating emergency responses globally.
