St. Patrick's Cathedral Debuts Immersive Luminiscence Experience

St. Patrick’s Cathedral transforms into an immersive stage tonight as Banijay Americas launches Luminiscence, a 360-degree light and sound production. The show utilizes millimeter-precise projection mapping, a live choir, and an orchestra led by Maestro Malcolm J. Merriweather to trace the history of the landmark through music and narrative.

New York native Jonathan Roumie provides the voice for this production, which highlights the cathedral's architectural legacy. Romain Sarfati, co-founder of the production house LOTCHI, emphasized that the show aims to reveal the space's existing character rather than overlaying a new identity. The project arrives in New York following successful runs in eight countries since 2023, where it has attracted over two million attendees.

Beyond the artistic display, the initiative serves a preservation goal: a portion of every ticket sold supports the "Renew the Living Voices" campaign, dedicated to the restoration of the cathedral's historic Kilgen Organ. Fr. Enrique Salvo, Rector of St. Patrick’s, noted that the exhibition is intended to offer visitors a new way to interact with the site’s history and faith, regardless of their personal religious background.

Completed in 1878 after two decades of construction, the white-marble cathedral stands as North America's largest Gothic Revival Catholic structure. The current production will run on select dates through mid-November, with potential extensions into 2027. Options include a standard recorded experience or the "Live+" version featuring the full ensemble. Tickets remain available through the official project website.
