Exobiosphere Taps Outpost to Launch Microgravity Drug Discovery Labs

Biotech firm Exobiosphere has secured the inaugural spot on Outpost’s new Space Factories platform, marking a shift toward commercialized orbital manufacturing. The agreement utilizes Outpost’s reusable CarryAll spacecraft to ferry automated laboratory modules into orbit and return critical biological research samples safely to Earth for further analysis.

Exobiosphere Taps Outpost to Launch Microgravity Drug Discovery Labs

The partnership centers on Exobiosphere’s Orbital High-Throughput System, an automated lab designed for disease modeling and drug screening. By integrating this hardware into Outpost’s standardized modular infrastructure, the company aims to move beyond sporadic research flights toward a consistent pipeline of space-based drug discovery. The platform handles essential orbital services such as thermal regulation, power, and data, allowing the biotech team to focus exclusively on their experimental processes.

Reliable return logistics remain the primary bottleneck for the emerging orbital economy, particularly as the industry prepares for the eventual decommissioning of the International Space Station. Outpost’s CarryAll vehicles bridge this gap, offering pressurized, reusable transport capable of returning payloads ranging from 200 kilograms to 10 metric tons. With a scheduled mission in 2028, the collaboration highlights a growing commercial appetite for scalable, repeatable access to microgravity environments for pharmaceutical development.
