The expansion signals a shift in Deliveroo’s last-mile strategy, aiming to complement its existing rider network with zero-emission, electric robots. These units are designed for short-distance trips, navigating urban environments at walking pace to provide additional flexibility for local merchants. During the initial phase, consumers in Canary Wharf will gain access to deliveries from established names like Patty&Bun and local favorites such as Beam and Signorelli, before the service scales to include a broader merchant base.

Deliveroo and Coco Robotics Launch Autonomous Deliveries in the UK
Sidewalk delivery robots are hitting British streets as Coco Robotics and Deliveroo launch an exclusive partnership. Beginning this October in London’s Canary Wharf, the rollout marks the first time Deliveroo has integrated autonomous ground vehicles into its UK network, with plans to reach Milton Keynes, Leeds, and Nottingham shortly thereafter.

Beyond logistics, the initiative incorporates a safety-focused data layer through a partnership with BlindSquare. By mapping sidewalk hazards in real-time—such as construction zones or discarded e-scooters—the robots transmit data directly to an accessibility app, assisting blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Local officials, including the Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, have welcomed the technology as a driver for regional innovation and job creation. Coco Robotics, which has already completed over 500,000 deliveries across the U.S. and Europe, will establish local infrastructure and charging facilities to support the rollout, creating new technical roles in maintenance and logistics.
