Leerink Partners Expands Into Event-Driven Trading

Investment bank Leerink Partners is moving beyond its healthcare-focused roots by launching a dedicated event-driven sales and trading team in Boston. The move marks a strategic shift for the firm, which has recruited three industry veterans to build out capabilities in merger arbitrage and special situations.

Leerink Partners Expands Into Event-Driven Trading

The new unit will be spearheaded by Josh Ezrin, who joins as a Senior Managing Director after three decades in the sector. Ezrin will work alongside Tom McCaffrey, a veteran trader and principal market maker with 25 years of experience, and Brian Furbush, who steps in as a Director and desk analyst. Together, the trio aims to integrate their expertise in event-driven strategies with Leerink’s existing healthcare-specific platform.

Rob Leerink, head of the firm's institutional equities division, stated that the expansion is designed to provide clients with broader market intelligence. The team is tasked with bridging the gap between general equity market insights and the firm's established depth in healthcare, offering institutional investors a mix of actionable commentary and trade execution. The recruits will collaborate across the firm’s investment banking and capital markets departments to service clients involved in complex corporate events.
