The lion's share of the funding, totaling $91 million, is earmarked for the Compact Air-to-Air Missile program. Ursa Major is developing a 7-inch motor designed for high-performance flight within confined volumes, utilizing a Highly Loaded Grain configuration to maintain low unit costs. The remaining $46 million supports the Naval Modular Missile program, where the company will produce a 10-inch motor compatible with existing shipboard launch systems.
These contracts rely on Ursa Major’s Lynx manufacturing process, an approach intended to transition designs from prototype to high-rate production without the traditional lag time. Jason Meredith, president of Solid Missile Systems at Ursa Major, noted that production capacity remains the primary constraint in current missile programs. By utilizing these advanced manufacturing techniques, the company intends to shorten the development lifecycle for the warfighter.
