The new cockpit solution merges the instrument cluster and infotainment interface into a single control framework. Unlike traditional vehicle designs that rely on dozens of separate electronic control units, the software-defined approach utilizes high-performance computing to manage core functions. This consolidation allows drivers to access navigation, media, and essential vehicle diagnostics—such as speed and RPM—through a more unified and intuitive display interface.

LG to Power Renault's First Software-Defined Commercial Van
Renault Group has selected LG Electronics to provide the integrated cockpit system for its New Trafic E-Tech Electric, marking the automaker's first mass-produced commercial vehicle built on a software-defined architecture. The partnership signals a shift toward centralized computing in the competitive electric van market.

Beyond user experience, the architecture supports over-the-air software updates, allowing for continuous feature enhancements after the vehicle leaves the factory. For Renault, this integration reduces hardware complexity and production costs. The project deepens a multi-year relationship between the two companies, who previously collaborated on Android-based infotainment systems in 2021. Eun Seok-hyun, president of the LG Vehicle Solution Company, noted that the firm intends to leverage this deployment to further its reach among global automakers as the industry pivots toward centralized software platforms.
