The Leiden-based company developed the Qatra Genomic DNA Extraction Lab Kit to address the dilution challenges inherent in liquid biopsies. Utilizing patent-pending magnetic bead surface chemistry, the system captures DNA directly from whole urine samples. This approach eliminates the need for labor-intensive concentration steps or splitting samples across multiple extractions, streamlining the workflow for high-throughput or automated environments.

Qurin unveils Qatra kit to boost DNA recovery from large urine volumes
Researchers can now extract genomic DNA from up to 400 mL of urine using Qurin’s new Qatra kit, a system designed to maximize biomarker recovery. By moving beyond the standard 50 mL sample limit, the technology delivers a 7.6-fold increase in total DNA yield compared to conventional laboratory workflows.

Marc Peeters, CEO at Qurin, stated that the company’s objective is to capture the molecular information often lost when analyzing only small aliquots of urine. While urine is a non-invasive source of circulating cell-free DNA and tumor-derived fragments, these biomarkers frequently exist at concentrations too low for standard detection methods. The Qatra system serves as the inaugural product in Qurin’s broader R&D platform, which aims to provide modular, scalable solutions for extracting various biomarker classes—including RNA, proteins, and extracellular vesicles—from full-void samples. The current kit is strictly designated for Research Use Only.
