Mothers Against Greg Abbott Launch Campaign Highlighting Political 'Rizz'

Two children debate the merits of their mothers’ multitasking skills in a new campaign spot from Mothers Against Greg Abbott. The organization, active since 2021, is pivoting away from the gloom of traditional attack ads to promote a slate of 129 Democratic mothers running for office across Texas this November.

Mothers Against Greg Abbott Launch Campaign Highlighting Political 'Rizz'

The campaign, titled Moms Have Rizz, leans into youth slang to rebrand the often-stagnant image of state politics. Founder Nancy Thompson argues that the problem-solving abilities honed in domestic life translate directly to the statehouse. Instead of the typical black-and-white, high-stakes political advertising, the group is betting that humor and relatability will resonate more effectively with voters currently weary of negative campaigning and digital misinformation.

Data backing the push reveals a significant demographic shift within the party’s ranks. Among Democratic candidates running in Texas this year, 58 percent are women, with two-thirds of that group identifying as mothers. Furthermore, 31 percent of these female candidates are teachers, and 55 percent of those running statewide are women of color. By providing candidates with customizable ad templates, the organization aims to create a viral, grassroots network that directs traffic toward specific local races, including those of Gina Hinojosa, Vikki Goodwin, and Sarah Eckhardt. Thompson suggests the effort serves as a reminder to parents that their long-standing advice to children—that they can be anything—might be a two-way street worth applying to the ballot box.
