Uber Targets Corporate Catering in $2.3 Billion Acquisition

Uber is accelerating its expansion into workplace dining by acquiring catering marketplace ezCater for $2.3 billion in cash. This strategic move aims to integrate the platform’s business-to-business meal services into the existing Uber Eats infrastructure, tapping into a lucrative segment of the food delivery market previously dominated by office-focused logistics.

Uber Targets Corporate Catering in $2.3 Billion Acquisition

Founded in 2007, ezCater operates as a specialized marketplace connecting businesses with local catering providers. The company generated over $2.5 billion in gross bookings during the past year, marking a significant exit for a firm that spent its first seven years entirely bootstrapped. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized that the acquisition serves to unlock new revenue streams for restaurants by granting them access to high-volume corporate orders.

This deal reinforces Uber’s aggressive growth strategy within the food delivery sector. The company is currently finalizing a $15 billion acquisition of Delivery Hero while simultaneously integrating drone technology through partnerships with Zipline and Flytrex to modernize its logistics network.
