The pilot, slated to launch in Fall 2027, aims to provide students with a structured pathway to earn associate degrees and transition into four-year institutions. By utilizing a proven framework that historically more than doubled three-year graduation rates compared to traditional methods, the college hopes to remove academic and financial hurdles. The initiative will offer proactive coaching, specialized tutoring, and financial assistance to cover gaps in tuition, textbooks, and transportation costs.

Dallas College Adopts CUNY Model to Boost Graduation and Transfer Rates
Dallas College has been selected as one of six national participants for the 2026-27 Student Success Action Lab, an initiative led by the City University of New York. The college plans to implement a pilot program modeled after CUNY’s Accelerated Study in Academic Programs to improve degree completion and university transfer outcomes.

Financial backing from the O'Donnell Foundation supports the implementation, building on $50 million in recent investments aimed at bolstering retention. Chancellor Justin H. Lonon noted that the program aligns with the college’s goal to shorten time-to-degree and strengthen the regional talent pipeline. With projections indicating that 85% of high-quality jobs in North Texas will require postsecondary education by 2031, officials view this evidence-based model as essential for closing the local skills gap.
