REVA Medical Reports Positive Trial Results for MOTIV Scaffold

A 72-year-old patient underwent a successful below-the-knee revascularization procedure using REVA Medical’s MOTIV sirolimus-eluting bioresorbable scaffold during a live demonstration at the VIVA26 conference in Las Vegas, highlighting the device's potential to treat chronic limb-threatening ischemia without leaving a permanent implant.

REVA Medical Reports Positive Trial Results for MOTIV Scaffold

Professor Andrej Schmidt of University Hospital Leipzig performed the procedure on a patient classified as Rutherford Category 5, successfully addressing a nonhealing ulcer with two MOTIV scaffolds. Following the demonstration, Dr. Ehrin Armstrong of HCA HealthOne Swedish Medical Center presented subgroup analysis from the MOTIV pivotal trial, which enrolled 292 patients across 40 centers to compare the scaffold against standard balloon angioplasty.

The trial data indicates superior performance for the MOTIV device in both Rutherford 4 and Rutherford 5 populations. At 12 months, the composite endpoint of limb salvage and primary patency reached 76.7% for MOTIV-treated Rutherford 4 patients, versus 54.5% for balloon angioplasty. Among the more complex Rutherford 5 group, MOTIV achieved a 65.7% success rate compared to 46.2% for standard treatment. These findings suggest that the scaffold, built on REVA’s proprietary Tyrocore polymer platform, provides consistent clinical benefits for patients facing severe peripheral artery disease.
