The transaction, initially announced in July, provides Clarivate with fresh capital intended to pay down debt and improve its balance sheet. CEO Matti Shem Tov described the sale as a milestone in the company’s Value Creation Plan, aiming to simplify operations and focus on high-growth segments with recurring revenue. By shedding the healthcare unit, Clarivate plans to double down on its remaining pillars: Academia & Government, which houses brands like Web of Science and ProQuest, and Intellectual Property, home to Derwent and CompuMark.

Clarivate Finalizes $600 Million Sale of Life Sciences Segment
Clarivate Plc has officially divested its Life Sciences & Healthcare division to Altaris, LLC for $600 million. The move marks a significant pivot in the company’s ongoing transformation strategy, allowing the London-based data provider to narrow its scope toward core academic and intellectual property markets.

CFO Michael Easton noted that the leaner business model should grant the company greater financial flexibility to invest in AI-driven innovation and research tools. Investors can expect an updated full-year 2026 financial outlook when the company reports its third-quarter results on November 3. The divestiture represents a deliberate shift away from broad service offerings toward specialized, subscription-based intelligence solutions for researchers and legal professionals.
