Boston Scientific names Joseph M. Fitzgerald as new COO
Starting January 1, 2027, Joseph M. Fitzgerald will step into the newly created role of chief operating officer at Boston Scientific. The appointment accompanies a major corporate restructuring designed to accelerate decision-making and streamline the medical technology firm's global operations as it integrates new business segments.

Alongside this appointment, the corporation will shift to three primary reporting segments: Interventional Therapies, Rhythm Solutions, and MedSurg. Lance Bates will lead the Interventional Therapies segment, including the incoming Penumbra business. Nick Spadea-Anello will take charge of Rhythm Solutions, while Stephen Morse will manage the combined MedSurg and Asia Pacific division. These executives will report directly to Fitzgerald, marking a shift toward a more centralized operational model.
