Arm & Hammer Launches Third Annual Baking Soda Rocket Day

On October 8, students across the United States will trade textbooks for vinegar and baking soda to mark the third annual Baking Soda Rocket Day. Since 2024, the initiative has engaged over 200,000 young learners, using simple household chemistry to demonstrate the practical applications of STEAM education in real-world careers.

The event features flagship activations in Chicago and Houston, where students will interact with industry experts, including aerospace engineer Emily Calandrelli and retired astronaut Michael Baker. These sessions aim to demystify complex fields by connecting classroom experiments to professional trajectories in space exploration and engineering. Representatives from LEGOLAND Resorts will also participate to discuss how creative problem-solving fuels roles like roller coaster design.

Beyond the physical launches, the program emphasizes long-term inspiration through a partnership with Club for the Future. Students are invited to submit postcards and posters that will fly aboard a future Blue Origin New Glenn mission. Once returned to Earth, these items will be stamped as having traveled to space, providing participants with a tangible connection to the aerospace industry. Educators and families nationwide can access digital resources at BakingSodaRocket.com to conduct their own experiments, ensuring the program remains accessible to students outside of the primary event cities.
