The site represents a massive 5 billion dollar bet on domestic manufacturing. Once fully operational, the plant is slated to inject 600 kilotonnes of annual rolled aluminum capacity into the market, specifically targeting the beverage packaging, automotive, and specialty product sectors. A dedicated recycling center integrated into the footprint will have the capacity to process over 15 billion used beverage cans every year.

Novelis Rolls First Aluminum Coil at Five-Billion-Dollar Alabama Plant
Inside a sprawling facility in Bay Minette, Alabama, the heavy machinery hummed to life this week as Novelis produced the first coil on its new cold mill. This milestone marks a significant step toward completing the first fully integrated aluminum recycling and rolling plant built in the United States since 1983.

Steve Fisher, president and CEO of Novelis, noted that the facility is designed to alleviate current capacity constraints in the North American market while boosting recycled content in company products. As the commissioning process continues across all plant assets, the company is moving toward customer qualification. Commercial shipments remain on schedule for the second quarter of 2027, with the project expected to support up to 1,000 permanent jobs.
