This integration introduces the CLEAR1 platform as an optional, no-cost verification tool for Veterans, family members, and service members. Veterans preferring face-to-face assistance can complete enrollment at six pilot medical centers located in Washington, D.C., Palo Alto, Atlanta, Orlando, Brooklyn, and San Juan. The system is designed to function alongside current login options, ensuring that those who prefer traditional methods face no disruption to their services.

VA.gov Adds CLEAR Identity Verification to Veteran Login Options
The Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a pilot program allowing Veterans to verify their identities through CLEAR to access VA.gov accounts. Led by technology contractor GovCIO, the initiative provides an additional sign-in choice alongside existing methods, aiming to streamline digital access to earned federal benefits.

Kristin Gill, Sector President of Veteran and Enterprise Technology Services at GovCIO, noted that the partnership focuses on integrating fast, secure tools that fit into the established digital ecosystem. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the identity verification process does not grant CLEAR access to a user’s personal health information, which remains exclusively with the VA. The CLEAR1 platform adheres to the Kantara Initiative’s NIST IAL2/AAL2 standards, matching the security protocols already required for VA.gov access.
