NBA Legends and Youth Connect at Macao Community Impact Week

NBA legend Ray Allen and Chinese basketball stars headlined the opening of the 2026 Community Impact Week in Macao, a five-day initiative designed to foster youth development and cross-regional inclusion. Held at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, the event drew 300 participants from across the Greater Bay Area.

The inaugural Youth Day on October 7 served as the centerpiece for the week-long collaboration between Sands China and the NBA. Aspiring athletes aged 11 to 14 from eight local schools joined peers from Hong Kong and mainland China for professional training sessions. Under the guidance of Allen, Ding Yanyuhang, and national team player Zhang Ziyu, the students underwent fitness assessments and intensive drills focused on ball handling, footwork, and tactical gameplay.

Beyond the court, the program addressed career development through the Her Time to Play seminar. Industry leaders, including Houston Rockets president Gretchen Sheirr and Dallas Mavericks communications officer Gina Miller, joined Sands China executives to discuss personal growth and professional pathways in the sports industry. This expansion into the Greater Bay Area marks a strategic shift for the event, aiming to use basketball as a bridge to strengthen ties between regional youth while supporting Macao’s broader goal of establishing itself as a premier destination for international sports tourism.
